It's called Hype and high demand. It's what people want and they want their popularity raised, so they give what they're asked for. That and or the fact that it's true that 10-bit can yield a little bit better compression results, and it's not bad. Just like with Blu-Rays. The DBZ Blu-Ray sets they cropped the top and bottom of the video off and forced it into widescreen, and for what?? Better quality? nope, all because its what most people wanted and most people are oblivious to whats really being done to the video. All they care about is widescreen, and it filling the TV without caring about how much video your losing or what was even done to it just because they hate black bars on the sides of their TV.





10-Bit is mostly hype and demand and while it has tiny benefits that are nice and worth it, their not so large that they make it a need or all that much better, unless the original source your working on is already 10-Bit. What people know and are going by is popularity count and minimal positive information without knowing full details about it. That is what I think it is.

You for example are liking/wanting and going for 10-Bit from the sounds of things, yet you cannot even give me full details on why or how its different and or the pros and cons. Your suggesting to me to ask around to find out more. Mostly what you know is what you heard or seen as popular, so that's what you want is my bet. You want it because it's popular and know it gives slightly better results, without knowing why or anything much else about it. All that matters is the quality of the output its capable of and your sold.

I did enough research that when I was first asked 2 years ago, I decided against it and knew why I made my decision. The difference wasn't large enough due to the source being 8-bit and compatibility was much lesser. Ultimately I went with keeping compatibility so more audiences could enjoy it without having to convert or have any playback issues with multiple devices. If your not worried about compatibility and it plays for you on the device you want, then yes I would recommend 8-bit into 10-bit encoding and see no reason not to use it at this point in time, except possible incorrect colors happening.

10-bit is not bad and can be worth it and it does give slightly better output results (kinda minimal though) if you compare an 8-bit encode that was done the same exact way with the same script and same exact bitrate. It's just not at the point of compatibility and efficiency to get me to make a switch to it yet. That's pretty close to the reason I never switched to h.265 yet. The lack of compatibility and ways to watch it.

On a final note, 8-bit or 10-bit, it doesn't matter what type is chosen or used if the encoder doesn't know what their doing or doesn't filter it well enough. It's more than possible for an 8-bit encode to completely blow away a 10-bit encode because that encoder knew what they were doing or chose a better way to handle the video.

If I took an old script from my first year encodes when I was a newer encoder, and made it 10-bit then made a new script now all these years later and encoded it into 8-bit, that 10-bit encode would look like shit in comparison because I didn't have the experience and knowledge I do now after all these years of learning and working with video. This is why you see me trying to get higher quality re-encodes of my older first year stuff out.

Then there is personal taste. What you see and like most is not going to be what someone else sees and likes most, everyone has their own personal tastes.
Regardless of 8-bit, 10-bit, h.264, divx, etc your going to like the way something looks or the way something was done better in certain encodes and your favorite in the end is your personal taste choice. An encoder could use top notch bitrates, 10-bit, and FLAC audio, but if they blur or smudge all the details to over clean it up or way over filter the video and you hate that, you might just pick the 8-bit video because it looks better. I've seen some people take audio from one release and attach it to the video of another release because they prefer it like that and liked the video better for one and audio better for another.

The encoder, your personal tastes, and the encoders final results matter more than the type of things that were used or done. Even an old divx .AVI file can look better than a new h.264 .MKV file if the h.264 encoder is not very good at what they do.

It takes you to an adfly page if you put it in as a link. Also at one point it either wouldn't work or just disappeared out of the post after it was submitted.

I just put it in code so you can go right to it instead going through that adfly crap and getting someone free money. I have a rule against using links to make money anyways.

Extratorrent has a better torrent file anyways. That site keeps all my trackers in tact, piratebay deletes all the trackers out of the torrent file when its uploaded and replaces them with 2 or 3 other public ones.

Well the spiderman episodes are almost done going through the encoder again with those changes being made. There's maybe 2 days left for them all to finish.

I have it using all the CPU up to get them done quicker, so there wont be any new movie encodes until they finish.

Spiderman is all finished up. I will mux it all together and try to get it up on Tuesday when I return. I wont be home until then because of visiting an out of state family grave for the next couple days.

I think it turned out pretty damn amazing when compared with the old encodes I did several years ago. No more super oversharpened picture, greatly reduced halo's, no more way overdoing the DNR so it doesn't look like watercolor paint smudges and actually has textures and details now, much less rainbows, no more interlace lines left over, ghosting/blending greatly reduced or removed, and higher audio bitrate. Personally, I cant wait to rewatch this great series.

If you had my old encodes, trust me they are worth getting rid of after this gets it's much improved re-release. After looking at my old encodes and not seeing them for years, I cannot believe I ever thought that looked good. But then again, I did not have the experience in my first year or any experience with PAL back then to give it the release it deserves and that I can give it now.

I'm actually so sick today that I called off of work this morning. I doubt I will be doing anything other than resting most of the day and waiting for my doctors appointment.

Being sick sucks!! I cannot call off work another day though so I'm up a tad early.

I watched a few of the new Spiderman encodes to pass some time while I laid down yesterday. I found a last minute change I would like to make which will actually improve detail a bit. It also results in a slightly sharper image. Overall It's kind of a minor change, but my OCD is driving me crazy about it lol. I have to do this series justice for me to be satisfied.

It will take approximately 4 days to finish running them again and I will start it after work today.

I guess I let the pressure of trying to rush these get to me. I already had everyone waiting a long while for it and I kinda tried to just get things done and out of the way. I certainly love quality custom filters and settings, but their slow 4fps processing rate can suck when your in a hurry. Its always worth it in the end though.


If anyone is far too impatient for that and would like it as it is now, or certain favorite episodes now, just let me know and I will send it to you privately over Skype, or private torrent or something.

I think your better off just waiting the 4 more days, but I understand how waiting is for some people and I feel bad enough about it, so I will do that if anyone requests it in PM.

My current plans at the moment are, get a few more movies done because I am so close to getting all the rest of the movies in the movie section of my archive re-encoded/re-uploaded like I wanted.

I also have the series Zoids - New Century Zero running through the encoder.

So a few movies, and the Zoids series are coming next. I will probly do Initial D Second Stage in 720p after that since I still have not managed to get Fourth Stage to finish its download yet.

Are you encoding the Blu-rays for Zoids?
