here's the audio track
https://www53.zippyshare.com/v/j7P7wRbX/file.html

this has two channels, hindi dub on one channel and english on the other one. i don't understand what this is. is it dual channel, dual mono..?

what i want to do is keep one and remove the other, without conversion. is it possible.

Load it audacity and delete the channel you don't want.

should i let it export to ac3 at 160 kbps. ffmpeg will be doing that.

ok i let it do that.
graph in audacity looks almost identical for the channel that i want compared to how it showed previously when i used map_channel in ffmpeg to separate the channel.

224 kbps ac3 sounds just fine. thx for the help.

Its probably dual mono but each mono track is a different dub. They might have taken 2 stereo tracks and downmuxed them to mono's then put them in the same audio track or they didn't have a clue what they were doing and it was on accident. They could have both originally been mono, but not likely unless its very old.

Just go with what Chaoxide said and remove the dub channel that you do not want, using Audacity.

I would then duplicate the leftover English channel so that you have 2 audio channels and make into a dual mono/stereo again, but this time it will be English only. That way the sound is not only coming out of one speaker or headphone side and will have both a R and L audio channel.

What you export/save it as is up to you.
